In the Online Briefing Session, we are delighted to have to following speakers: Nahian Rahman Rochi, Head of Business Development at Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA), will provide an economic up-date and share details on the Bangladesh Investment Summit 2025. Dr. Ishrat Hossain, Research Associate of the GIGA Institute for Asian Studies, will shed light on recent political developments in Bangladesh. Bangladesh with its 170 million inhabitants is one of the most dynamic markets in Asia-Pacific with growth rates of six to seven per cent in recent years – yet is often overlooked. The interim government of Nobel Peace Prize Winner Prof. Muhammad Yunus strives for a comprehensive reform agenda attracting foreign investment. Bangladesh is expected to cross the threshold from a ‘Least Developed Country’ to a ‘Middle Income Country’ in 2026 thanks to its considerable economic development successes.
Classic export goods from Bangladesh continue to be clothing and textiles as well as natural fibres and related products. However, bicycles and pharmaceutical products from Bangladesh have also made a name for themselves internationally. In the infrastructure sector, numerous expansion and modernisation projects offer business opportunities for the German construction and supply industry. There are also initial investments in high-tech sectors such as ICT or research and development. A lively start-up scene has also developed.
The OAV's business mission provides German companies with contacts to political and economic decision-makers in Bangladesh. Factory tours to local and German companies as well as networking events in Dhaka and Chattogram will reveal concrete business potential. There are also plans for the delegation to take part in the Bangladesh International Investment Summit 2025, for a meeting with Prof. Muhammad Yunus and key stakeholders. The mission will be accompanied by representatives from the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action and the Federal Foreign Office.
