Let’s talk Transition! Exploring the Energy Transition in Korea and Germany: Photovoltaics in Germany and Korea
17. Oktober 2024, Online
“Let’s talk Transition! Exploring the Energy Transition in Korea and Germany” is a series organized by the Korean-German Energy Partnership Team on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK). It focuses on current developments regarding the energy transition in both countries. Each session focuses on a specific topic and offers decision-makers from policy, industry and research a platform for in-depth information and discussion on the current status, development and potential for different energy transition policies and technologies in Germany and Korea.
The second session will focus on the future of photovoltaics (PV) in Germany and Korea. Solar PV plays a key role for the energy transition, as a cheap and abundant energy source. Therefore, both countries have set themselves ambitious PV deployment targets to achieve their net-zero emissions by 2045 and 2050 respectively, with intermediary targets of 215 GW in Germany and 53.8 GW in Korea. Furthermore, German and Korean stakeholders are exploring innovative deployment methods and technologies, like agri- and floating PV or perovskite solar cells.
This session will provide you with an overview of the current status, regulations and policies on PV in Germany in Korea and the plans for the near- and long-term future. Additionally, it will give you the chance to dive into current discussions on supply chain issues, bureaucratic requirements and strategies to protect and revive local value chains, showcasing how both countries’ governments and industries are addressing these issues and outlining new potentials for bilateral cooperation.
