Program

Germany and Japan have set themselves ambitious targets for PV deployment to achieve their net-zero targets by 2045 and 2050. However, both countries face certain challenges and risks for PV deployment, such as geographical concentration in global supply chains, space limitations and recycling issues.

Day 1 of the two-part workshop

will take a look at challenges with and possible solutions for sustainable and reliable supply chains for solar energy, with presentations on national solar PV-policies and perspectives on supply chain risks by the Japanese Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (METI) and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action (BMWK), followed by an insightful panel discussion with representatives from research, the German Solar Association (BSW) and the Japan Photovoltaic Energy Association (JPEA).

Day 2 of the workshop

will be specifically dedicated to new PV technologies, their potential and how they can help to reduce challenges of limited space for PV deployment, supply chain risks and help increase regional value creation. As industrial and technological frontrunners, German and Japanese stakeholders are looking into new promising deployment methods and technologies, such as organic and perovskite solar cells, agri-PV and floating PV, which will be showcased by companies from both countries.
